Tiananmen
and Chang'an Avenue in 1950s'

Today Chang'an avenue is regarded as the
#1 avenue in China. It starts from the east gate of Capital
Steel Co, in the west ,and ends at Yunhe Square of Tongzhou
in the east. The total length of the street is about 46 km
with the middle part of the avenue passing through the heart of Beijing
city - Tiananmen Square. Many government buildings and
famous icon-style buildings are located on both sides along
this famous avenue.
The following pictures were taken between 1950 and 1964 by
photographers of China's top official news agency - Xinhua,
which shows the changes of Chang'an Avenue.
